Smokeless Grade Insulating Hot Toppings
ThermSul Top 68 – A dark gray colored, slightly exothermic granular topping that will re-melt initial metal scull. ThermSul Top 68 is aluminum-free, non-smoking, and has both riser and ladle applications. In Riser Applications, light density residue will generally separate out into the dust collection system at shakeout. Since this product contains refractory components and is metal free, any residue will have little effect on the sand. It gives good feeding pattern from small to large risers in copper based alloys. In Ladle Applications, this topping keeps the slag from sticking to the ladle walls, eliminating severe slag scraping or cleanup. Clean ladles prevent slag inclusions within the castings.
ThermSul Top 68.3 – A dark gray colored, aluminum-free, insulating granular topping with both riser and ladle applications. Since this product contains refractory components and is metal-free, any residue will have little effect on the sand. In ladle applications, this topping keeps the slag from sticking to the ladle walls, eliminating severe slag scraping or clean-up. ThermSul Top 68.3 may also help to prevent any skulling of the slag on the pouring ladle walls, when used on top of the molten metal bath. It can be used on open transfer ladles, large bottom-pour ladles, and teapot ladles.
ThermSul Top 110 – A carbon-free version of ThermSul Top 68.
Low Smoke to Smokeless Grade Exothermic Hot Toppings (fast ignition for low temperature applications)
ThermTop Lite – An exothermic hot topping with minimum smoke and fume. Can be used for all copper-base and ferrous metal exothermic riser applications.
ThermTop Lite NF – An exothermic hot topping for copper, aluminum and other non-ferrous riser applications. It develops very fast ignition at lower temperatures that are encountered in non-ferrous castings, but it may be used on small ferrous castings where very fast ignition is desired. ThermTop Lite NF is carbon free.
ThermTop Lite M – ThermTop Lite M is an exothermic that will burn reasonably hot and generates little smoke or fumes. When applied to the top of the metal-filled riser, ThermTop Lite M begins to expand to some degree, giving the product lower density that allows it to fill the gap that often occurs between the riser sidewalls and the topping. This product will develop a light crust over the molten metal that will act as a heat seal.
ThermTop Custom – An economical exothermic topping applicable to all iron and steel risers. ThermTop Custom is carbon free.
ThermTop Super – A very rapid acting exothermic hot topping for iron and steel where fast ignition and maximum heat input is required. ThemTop Super contains no carbon.
ThermTop 46, 744, 746 and 754 – Rapid acting, highly exothermic and insulating hot toppings for iron and steel castings. These products provide fast ignition and maximum heat input while simultaneously providing good insulating characteristics. They also exhibits good flowability, excellent expansion and heat retention. Smoke generation is minimal during the exothermic reaction and the hot topping is formulated to expand to double its original thickness under ideal application conditions. The resultant insulating crust remains soft and doesn’t crack as the feed metal is drawn into the riser neck, providing excellent feeding characteristics.
SteelCover EF-1 – A slag conditioner and high quality deoxidant that provides an insulating cover and reducing blanket for steel arc furnaces. Oxidation losses of silicon, iron and manganese are greatly minimized and alloy recovery is enhanced by the deoxidizing nature of SteelCover EF-1.
SteelCover EF-2 – A low smoke insulating cover that provides an excellent cover medium for electric arc furnaces and ladles to reduce heat and oxidation losses of metallics.
